Boydens Engineering strengthens position in Vietnam and looks to SEA

With a strong foothold in Vietnam, Boydens Engineering is looking to expand its activities to the rest of the region. It opened its Vietnam branch six years ago in Hanoi to support the green building market in Southeast Asia.

Boydens Engineering’s project in Vietnam, the renewal of the 2.6-hectare United Nations International School (UNIS) Campus in Hanoi, was completed in May last year. UNIS Hanoi began operations in 1988 and is one of only two United Nations schools in the world.

Alongside partners, a new dining building, elementary school, covered court, centralized plant and sports field were built.

Boydens Engineering was responsible for the design and energy efficiency of the technical installations such as electricity, district cooling, public health, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and fire safety, while addressing objectives such as energy efficiency, indoor air quality and comfort levels in the classrooms, and minimising negative impacts to the environment. Some of the buildings also harness green energy and have a community green roof, natural ventilation and use eco-friendly building materials.

Slated for completion in May this year is the new office headquarters of Vietnamese herbal medicine specialist Sao Thai Duong, for which Boydens Engineering is currently conducting author supervision.

The 1.3-hectare building in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, will function not just as an office space, but will have holistic features such as an exhibition, laboratories, a spa, a gym and yoga studio, a restaurant, a nap room — many of which harness Boydens Engineering’s large range of MEP specialties. In addition, thanks to passive design optimisation, the building can operate with less energy. Sustainable design features include the reuse of rainwater, heat recovery, glazing and insulation.

Boydens Engineering has also further strengthened its team with new members. Joining the Hanoi team in 2018 as operation manager is Hugo Monteyne, who was a professor and researcher at Ghent University in Belgium. He comes with 40 years of experience in both the academic and private sectors.

Reinforcements for Ho Chi Minh City’s team include two strong and experienced Project Managers: Le Cong Hoang with 14 years of experience who takes over southern projects on MEP, and Nguyen Thanh Duy with 17 years of experience who manages the C&S design team.
