|Client:||City of Middelkerke|
|Project:||Casino and recreational space|
|Project type:||Competition concept|
The project is located at the hippest place on the Belgian coast line. The shape of the building resembles a stone brought back to the beach by the sea. Just like a stone, its architecture is pure and timeless. It contrasts with the rest of the real estate on the coast which constitutes what is referred to in Belgium as the « Atlantic wall ». However, it should be perceived as a geometrical contrast rather than a disrupting form. The casino would host hospitality and recreational functions, becoming a new centre of attractivity to Belgians and foreigners. The form of the building was optimised with regards to the main winds and sunlight orientation to create the least disturbances possible.
