Plot 3A is part of a large urban redevelopment project on the Oosterdokseiland in Amsterdam. The concept of the masterplan allows the buildings to have the widest possible view of the water. The construction is a complex of 25,000 m² of shops, offices, social housing and luxurious apartments around a courtyard.
The brick walls are stretched around the building like a membrane and are alternately jointed vertically and horizontally. The master plan dictates cantilevered units to face the railroad, 15 metres above ground and supported by ‘origami’ columns.
